To love anyone is nothing else than to wish that person good. – Thomas Aquinas

Traditionally, romance was always left up to the man to initiate. It was a way to woo a woman, to court her. Flowers, chocolates, fancy dinners, etc. Romance was always expected from the man. No romance, no interest.
Today, this is not so. Although romance may be initiated by the man, it is no longer expected that the man be the only initiator in romance. In this day and age, when it is acceptable for a woman to “make the first move” or to ask a man out, it is also acceptable for a woman to be romantic. Sure, women like to be romanced. It is a way to show that one cares about someone on a deep level. But what about men? Men like to be romanced as well. They like to be shown that a woman cares about them, cares about the relationship, and wants to add a deeper connection in the relationship.
Romance need not be stressful. And it need not be something that is an “obligation”. But it can be done in so many ways, even little ways, to show someone that you care.
Here are some romantic ideas that can be used every day:
Leave a simple love note somewhere where he/she will find it. Some suggestions are: on the fridge, in their car, in their locker, on top of or in their desk, on their pillow, in their coat pocket, etc.
Send a short text message to him/her saying that you love him/her.
Leave a single rose at his/her front door, ring the doorbell, and then leave quickly.
Leave a single rose on his/her windshield.
Send him/her a snail mail love letter.
Give him/her a kiss when they aren’t expecting it.
Hold his/her hand while watching t.v. or a movie.
Listen together to romantic music.
Slow dance together to romantic music.
Take a walk in the park or anywhere outside and take pictures of one another.
Leave a lipstick heart with each other’s initials on the bathroom mirror.
Make a list of why you love your partner, put it in an envelope, and leave it on the kitchen counter, in the bathroom, on the desk, etc.
These are just a few romantic ideas that don’t cost a lot of money, if any, and can be done any time, any day. It can be initiated by the man OR the woman. Most of all, it is a great way for a relationship to grow.
