In this day and age of technology where news, mostly bad, is prevalent everywhere, it is very difficult to remain positive. Charlie Sheen’s melt down, violence in Libya, hurricanes and tornadoes in the south… it is all around us. On the radio, on t.v., all over the internet. It is difficult to remain positive and upbeat when all we hear are bad things going on all over the world.
Trying to be positive can be particularly difficult in our own lives, especially in our relationships. But it is very important to try to be as positive as we can. Without positive thinking, our lives can become a dismal cloud hanging over us. We lose out on taking opportunities from challenges and turning them around to something positive. Out of every challenge in our lives we can find something positive and grow from it.
People who have a positive outlook in life are very attractive to others. They smile a lot, are friendly, outgoing, and fun to be around. They can take a negative situation and turn it around by learning from it and creating it into something positive.
We can do the same thing in our relationships with others. For example, if you have a fight with your girl/guy, and it seems as if nothing is going right. Step back from the situation for a moment. You may be feeling hurt, mad, guilty, etc. Those are all negative feelings. Now try to think of it in another way. What are the positives of your partner? Write them down on a piece of paper if you have to. What have they contributed in your life that is positive? What positive things can you contribute in your relationship that have been brought up in this fight? By thinking this way, you can turn the argument around and learn from it. Instead of blaming or trying to change your partner, what is it that YOU can do to make the situation more positive? You can’t change someone else but you can change what YOU are doing.
Here is another scenario. You like someone you work with, go to school with, etc. You want them to like you as well. What types of POSITIVE things can you do to attract them? What if the things you are doing now aren’t working? Don’t get down about it. Think about it. If what you are doing isn’t working then change it. If you remain positive on the inside, it will show on the outside. If you remain negative, the frustration will show not only show in your appearance but also in your attitude.
If you change your way of thinking, your attitude, then this will be reflected in your outward appearance and others around you will notice. And positive thinking is contagious! Let your positive thinking flow onto others around you… and watch your life change for the better!
