Book Store
A book store is a great place to meet
people because it is quiet and there are always an abundance of book stores
in any town or city. It's also a great place to start up a
conversation. For instance, you spot a guy who is browsing the arts
section. Go up, grab a book and ask him if he's read that book before.
Tell him how you heard it was supposed to be good. You can also ask
him for his opinion on good reads. This is a great way to break the
ice and get the conversation flowing.
Music Store
Like book stores, music stores can be found
in any city or town. Here, the atmosphere is alive and positive with
music flowing all around. You can approach someone in the same way you
would in a book store. Just walk up to the section that the person is
at and ask them for their opinion on an artist or album. It's also a
great way to tell if you and that person have music interests in common.
Library
Every place has a library. If you are
looking to meet someone intellectual or "well read" then this is the place
to be. Keep in mind that when you approach the person that you have to
be quiet and talk low. But it's still a great place to meet someone
without all the hubbub of noise and distractions.

Church
A local church is one of THE best places to
meet people. You know you will meet someone friendly and if you are a
churchgoer then you are sure to meet someone of your own faith. Join
your church's youth group, choir or fundraiser. Some churches even
have a single's group where you can meet other singles of your own faith.
Flea Market
Like a book or music store, a flea market
is usually hopping with people, either looking for great deals or looking to
sell their wares. If you spot someone you are interested in and they
happen to be selling things, this is one of the best approaches at a flea
market. Walk up to that person and ask them about some of the things
they are selling. This will also be a great way to find out about the
person, what their interests are and where they're from. You might
even find something in common to talk about. Another approach, is
actually selling your own items. This gives you a broad idea of who
you can meet and what they are interested in. And you will find that
lots of times someone will approach YOU and ask YOU questions.
School Clubs/Functions
School activities are a great way of
meeting people. If you are new to a school then this is the best way
to meet people. Sign up for your local drama club, newspaper or school
council. Join social groups and help set up dances and parties.
Join the debate team or just hang out at your school dance. Anything
to get your face out there so people can recognize you. If you have
your eye on someone in particular then find out what things they've signed
up for and see if you are able to join as well. Common interests tend to
bind people together, especially when team work is involved.
Ice Skating
Your local skating arena is another great
place to meet people. Unlike bowling or team sports which take up
people's time playing the sport, ice skating allows people to enjoy their
time without any distractions. You can also have fun by "timing" things to
get a person's attention, such as accidentally "bumping" into them or
falling on the ice in front of them.
Walking/Biking/Blading Along Path
Not only is this a great way to meet people
but it's also a great way to get some exercise! Walk, bike or roller blade,
it really doesn't matter which you do. There are usually many great
walking/biking paths to choose from and there are always people using these
paths. Take your dog or take your neighbour's dog to help break the
ice. And try to stay clear of secluded areas that may put you in harms way.
Museum/Art Gallery
If you are an artsty fartsy type of person
and would like to meet like-wise people then your local museum and/or art
gallery is the place to go. Start a conversation over a piece of art work or
ask for opinions on museum artifacts.
Volunteer
Volunteering in your community is a great
way to meet people and a great way to help your community. It is also
a great way to meet someone who you share similar interests with since you
both have signed up for the same activity. Check with your local
volunteer agency to see what is available in your community.
Parties
What better way to meet new people than at
a party, with music going on in the background, lots of snacks to munch on,
and an overall atmosphere of fun and happiness. Come up with your own ice
breakers or have someone introduce you. If you see someone you are not
familiar with, break the ice by asking them where they are from and who they
know.
The Beach
Pack up your best swim suit and a bag of
munchies and head on over to the beach. Not only will you find local people
but you will also get the chance to meet people you wouldn't normally get to
meet, people from out of town or even out of the country! Ask them
where they are from, if they live around here or if they are just visiting.
With plenty of sun and water to make the mood even more exhilarating, you
are bound to meet someone there.
