Not only does the shower need to be planned with
fun games and themes but also with food. The type of food will depend
on the theme and how many people arrive. The easiest and quickest food
ideas are finger food where recipes may be prepared in advance and it makes
it easy for guests to eat without the hardship of eating with a fork and a
knife with a plate on their lap. But finger food is not a rule of
thumb. There are many great ideas you can create with food for the
perfect bridal shower.
Sunday Brunch
The Sunday Brunch Shower is definitely one of my
favorites! Begin the shower at 11:00am. Serve fresh bagels and muffins,
fruit salad and quiche. You can also serve a cold cut platter with rolls to
make sandwiches.
For beverages, serve fresh orange juice and coffee. If you want to serve
alcohol, you can make Bloody Mary's, Mimosas or a champagne punch.
Dessert Shower
I had a dessert shower. I decorated the whole
table with lots of tulle and candles. I made all chocolate desserts and
decorated them with fresh flowers. I served champagne and sparkling cider.
And of course had lots of strawberries for color! It came out great, what
woman doesn't like chocolate?
High Tea
Show off your worldliness by hosting an
afternoon high tea. Jamie Schaff, event coordinator and president of Rare
Affairs Inc., in Atlanta, suggests throwing a tea party so you can keep food
light and to a minimum. "You can serve a variety of teas for everyone to
sample along with scones and finger sandwiches," Schaff says. "Check out
flea markets and thrift stores for wonderful old teacups, saucers and
teapots. It's even more interesting when they don't match."
The Pot
Hosting a wedding shower can cost a fortune, so
here's an idea that's worked for me throw a "chicken and the pot it's cooked
in" shower. Each person brings a dish (if you're having it at mealtime) or
an appetizer (if you're not) in a serving or cooking dish -- which is the
gift. You can also mail out matching recipe cards to everyone with their
invitations and have them bring the recipe to the shower. Then all you have
to do is provide drinks and wash the dishes for the happy couple. (And you
can give the couple a recipe box that matches the cards you sent out, if you
choose to do that.) Finally, have blank index cards out for guests who want
to copy down recipes for dishes they liked. Then the guests go home with a
gift, too!
